Welcome to Dolphins, Blue Whales and Seals. We hope you will have a very happy year with us all.
Our home tasks are ideas of things you can be working on at home and in addition to this we will provide optional homework sheets linked to our topics. We do not expect things to be handed in, but if a child does bring a completed piece of work in, their efforts will be recognised.
Your child will read on a weekly basis during our guided reading morning, however It is important that your child brings their book bag into school every day. They will either read with a teacher or a teaching assistant. Each week we will make a comment in their reading diary and ask, when possible, that you do the same. We do find your comments helpful. If you are available to help in school on a weekly basis with readers, then please see your child’s class teacher. If you require additional reading books, then please access Bug Club, or the reading baskets within each classroom.
Phonics will be taught 4-5 times a week for around 25 minutes. We will begin by recapping phase 3 and 4 and learning phase 5. Children will be taught a bank of new sounds and will practise reading and writing them within real and nonsense words.
This will be taught weekly. We will work on developing fine motor skills through fun activities. We will be tracing over patterns neatly and carefully and learning how to form each letter of the alphabet using our schools handwriting guidance sheet. We will be sending a copy of this home.
Home task 1 Phonics– To learn all letter names (not sounds). Find me the B. What letter is that? (point to a letter of the alphabet)
Home task 2 English– To learn how to form the first 10 letters of the alphabet by starting each letter from the top. Ensure ascending and descending letters are clear.
Home task 3 ICT – To become familiar with where letters are on a keyboard, to enable text to be produced. Play the game below and see if you can beat your time.
Home task 4 Maths-To correctly form numbers 0-9 and then build to 20. Use the rhymes provided for visual and auditory support. You could use the following link. http://www.doorwayonline.org.uk/literacy/letterformation/
Home task 5 Maths – To count forwards and backwards from any given number within 20 and quickly say what one more and less than a given number is.
Home task 6 Science – discuss the properties of materials around you using worlds like rough, smooth, bumpy, hard, flexible, transparent. Maybe you could go on a materials hunt, or make a materials collage.
